Good People Brewing IPA Review

Good People Brewing IPA

As one of Good People’s flagship brews, this solid IPA from Good People Brewing Company is a very drinkable and refreshing beer. Readily available in your grocery store aisle alongside other Good People brews, a six-pack is available for less than ten dollars.

The Appearance

I really like the design of the can. It’s bold without being in your face, and enough to grab your attention as you’re idling by in the grocery store. Let’s get to what’s inside the can – the appearance of the beer is a dark amber with tones of gold. I like my beer to hold its body all the way through and I was encouraged that the froth maintained its consistency throughout.

The Taste

If you’re not used to drinking IPAs, you could find the hoppiness a little over-powering (note the 75.5 IBU). I personally don’t mind the hoppiness as a regular IPA drinker, but I could see it being not everyone’s choice with a noticeable aromatic punch. If you’re looking to build up to an IPA I would recommend trying a Session first to familiarize yourself.

Readily drinkable out of the can, to get the most out of this IPA you would ideally want to drink it out of a pint glass to bring out the most in the flavors.

Overall I found that Good People’s IPA struck a decent balance between not being too sweet and not being too bitter. On the first mouthful there’s a definite earthy feel to this IPA with just a touch of something herbal I couldn’t quite put my finger on. The freshness of the beer doesn’t in anyway distract from the taste as the combination is well balanced. There was no noticeable aftertaste that I noticed and it was an easy drink.

What to Drink With

I drank this beer in a few of different settings. From a quick drink after work to relaxing on the back deck in the sunshine. The lightness of this beer pairs well with anything from snack food like chips and dip to a spicy entree for dinner.

However, my favorite pairing was with a cheese tasting one afternoon. The combinations of flavors was a particular highlight.

Round-Up

Overall I found the Good People IPA to be a well-rounded and balanced drink that IPA drinkers should find very palatable. Newcomers to IPAs should sample other lighter beers before trying as the hoppiness could be off-putting.
